15 Year Reunion- Underway

Yep, that's right its time to start thinking about the next class reunion. Its only 2 years away and planning needs to get underway. We still have a pretty extensive list of people we could not get ahold of for the 10 year, and I'm sure many of you have moved since the last reunion. So here is what needs to happen in the next year and a half....

1. Help - willing people to stick it out for the next couple of years getting addresses, sending out invitations, and helping plan.

2. addresses, names, numbers all the general contact info we can find needs to be updated (if anyone ordered that pricey little book of information from the high school it would be much appreciated if you'd be willing to help or loan it to us).

3. location, location, location....If you weren't at the 10 year here is what we did... we kicked off the reunion on homecoming weekend with a special bleacher section at the end of the football field. We also got a tour of the high school that evening to see all the new updates. The next day we had a family picnic at a local Park in Goshen- it was bring your own food/drinks we did have a minimal charge of 2 dollars a person 5 dollars a family to help off-set some cost of getting out invitations and a reunion book, and we did some kid games with prizes. Later that evening we took over IL Forno in Goshen for a buffet style dinner provided by fellow alum Mario Garber. This year we'd like to do something different.

4. brings me to price...what are you willing to pay per person/per couple?

Any help you are willing to give would be appreciated. We'll need about 5 or 6 people to really be able to get everything done without stress, any ideas or suggestions are also appreciated as well.
Feel free to send me a message at haeveringham@hotmail.com or the website http://ghsclassof97.blogspot.com/will be updated with information as well as the facebook page.

Thanks,Heather (Shank) Everingham

Another Sad Loss

Goshen man dies of injuries
By John Kline
THE GOSHEN NEWS
A Goshen man died of injuries suffered when his motorcycle collided with a car at 7:07 p.m. Saturday on Cassopolis Street near North Shore Drive, Elkhart.

Benjamin Michael Snook, 29, a conductor for Norfolk Southern Railroad, died at 10:10 p.m. at the Elkhart General Hospital emergency room.

According to Elkhart County police reports, Snook had been driving his 2008 Honda motorcycle north on Ind. 19 at a high rate of speed.

Police said the motorcycle went left of center on the curve on Ind. 19 south of North Shore Drive and collided with a southbound 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Melissa A. Heintzberger, 31, Osceola. Heintzberger suffered only minor injuries.

Police closed down Cassopolis Street for two hours while investigating the crash.

Kurtis Baumgartner, a cousin of Snook’s, spoke about the unexpected loss.

“We were pretty close,” Baumgartner said. “He was going to be a groomsman in my wedding. I’m getting married this summer. He was just a great person, and had a great outlook on life.”

Baumgartner said that Snook was always incredibly outgoing and full of energy.

“He was the life of the party,” he said.

Baumgartner also recalled Snook as being athletic and a lover of all things outdoors.

“He loved to kayak and camp, and he and a couple of his buddies owned a boat together, and they’d take that out to Lake Wawasee. I know he really enjoyed that,” Baumgartner said. “He also liked to do rock climbing. He was just very outdoorsy.”

Looking back on their friendship, Baumgartner said one of his fondest memories of Snook was his unfailing ability to brighten the mood of just about anyone he encountered.

“Any time I was home I tried to hang out with him, and if you were having a bad day, he’d make it all better,” Baumgartner said. “He was just a fun guy, and great to be around.”

With Sorrow...

Death stuns Norfolk neighborhood

Friends and neighbors say 29-year-old Angela Lechlitner had 3 loves; Jesus Christ, people and
gardening. She was just as passionate about all three.

"On the outside you'd think that she was a timid and shy gal, but once you got to know her she was really engaging," said Tabernacle Church Pastor Kenny Bryant.

People who knew Lechlitner were shocked when police found her dead inside her home Saturday afternoon.

Investigators say there were obvious signs of trauma. Concerned friends called police when Lechlitner didn't show up for work at Norfolk Botanical Garden. The home located in the 2000 blk. of Shafer Street quickly became a crime scene.

"The detective said to lock your doors, lock your windows and don't answer the door if you don't know who's knocking," said one neighbor.

She says many more are baffled about who would hurt Lechlitner.

"This is very uncharacteristic of this neighborhood. I think everyone here is shaken and a little worried," she continued.

Today, members of the Tabernacle Church of Norfolk held a memorial for Lechlitner at Norfolk Botanical Garden.

"Although it was a spontaneous service, there were about 250 people that were present, so she touched a lot of lives," said Pastor Bryant.

He says he met with Lechlitners parents who flew in from Indiana.

"They grieve, but they don't grieve as those without any hope. Her time on this earth was obviously done, but there's joy in knowing one day they'll be reunited," he added.

Police are investigating Lechlitners' death as a homicide. If you know anything that could help police call Crime Line at 1-888-LOCK-UP.
